Arch. Francis Mungai Gitau, who passed away while receiving treatment in the United States last weekend had a rich curriculum vitae with major contribution to the construction industry as well as in corporate management. Arch. Mungai, who was just recently appointed to chair the Family Bank Board was an accomplished professional who had served in numerous capacities.
He held a Masters Degree in Architecture and Urban Design from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Bachelor of Architecture degree, First Class Honours from the University of Nairobi. He was also a Fellow of the Architectural Association of Kenya (FAAK) and its past Chairman.
Arch. Mungai was a founding Partner of Aaki Consultants, Architects and Urban Designer and had worked as an Architect with prominent firms like Triad Architects in Nairobi and Urban Innovation Group (UIG) in Los Angeles. He was a former lecturer at the University of Nairobi, Architecture and Building Sciences Department. He also served as Chair of Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA).
The Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) eulogized him: “We are forever grateful for the positive impact he made in the built environment.”
In his message of condolences, Family Bank Company Secretary Eric Murai said Arch. Mungai had made valuable contribution to the growth of the bank and would be missed immensely.
Arch. Mungai’s remains will be cremated in the Unites States today 19th June 2024.
