IEK

Engineers, technology experts, researchers, policymakers and industry leaders are expected to converge in Mombasa in November for the 33rd International Convention of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), as the profession turns its attention to the growing role of intelligent systems in shaping Africa’s development.

The four-day convention will take place from 24th to 27th November 2026 at PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort & Spa in Shanzu, Mombasa, under the theme “Intelligent Systems for Accelerated and Sustainable Growth.”

The convention is expected to examine how technologies including artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, automation, data analytics and smart systems are changing the way infrastructure, industries and public services are designed, delivered and managed.

Among the key areas on the programme are intelligent infrastructure, mobility and aviation; smart energy and climate resilience; digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0; water, sanitation and environmental intelligence; ICT and AI; and engineering education and the future workforce. Other discussions will focus on engineering entrepreneurship, technology transfer, policy, regionalisation and public-private partnerships in infrastructure development.

The programme will also extend beyond conventional conference sessions. Delegates can expect interactive workshops, industrial visits, excursions and networking opportunities, alongside a gala dinner. The 5th Future Leaders Summit, scheduled for 24th November, will focus specifically on preparing the next generation of engineers for a digital and intelligent future.
