The long-awaited official opening of the Chaka Market in Nyeri will happen in the next two weeks, area Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has said. Speaking on a morning television show, Mr Kega assured members of the public that allocation of trading spaces would be done fairly and the names of beneficiaries published in daily newspapers.
President Kenyatta will witness the opening, said the MP.
The Sh 1 billion project is expected to provide a conducive environment for traders to do business and farmers to sell their produce. “Within the market, there is a PSV terminus, a bank and shops besides the regular farm produce facilities”, added Mr Kega.
Chaka Market will become one of the largest in the country, overtaking Karatina that had long been the main market in Central Kenya.
