Congestion to Ease as Nairobi’s Likoni Road is Expanded

Motorists who frequently use Likoni Road in Nairobi have something to smile about after the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) awarded the contract to dual the usually congested and potholed 1.7 kilometre stretch between Lunga Lunga Road and Jogoo Road.

“Motorists will now be on a dual carriage from both the interchange at Enterprise Road and from the Southern By-pass to join Jogoo Road. There are also plans to dual Lunga Lunga Road and ease movements in and out of the Industrial Area,” said John Cheboi, KURA’s communications director.

The contract was awarded to Cementers Limited for Kes 900 million. The contractor is expected to be through with the works in March 2021.

Upon completion, it means the entire road from Mombasa Road at the Southern bypass junction to Jogoo Road will now be dual carriage way, easing commuting in the area.

The road will also incorporate a pedestrian walkway and cyclist path as well as an expansion of the bridge near Jogoo Road with a railway underpass.

KURA has been on a road expansion blitz in Nairobi with numerous new or expansion projects to improve mobility in the capital city.
