Cement prices appear to be wildly discrepant, mainly informed by type of cement, brand and location of dealer.
A quick survey by Construction Kenya Showcase conducted on Monday 7th October 2024 indicated huge differences in prices across the country. In Nakuru, a 50kg bag of ordinary Mombasa Cement (32.5N) was retailing at Ksh 860. In Nairobi, the same was Ksh 760.
In Nyeri, prices were starting from Ksh 850 while in Wote, Makueni, a bag of Simba Cement was being sold at Ksh 770. In Kitale, a retailer quoted Ksh 840 for Simba Cement and Ksh 960 for Bamburi.
The highest price recorded was for Bamburi Cement, with a retailer in Lodwar quoting Ksh 965. The same retailer was offering Simba Cement for Ksh 840.
The lowest price found was for Simba Cement directly procured from the manufacturer online. A bag (of 32.5R) was retailing at Ksh 550 with free delivery for orders above 100 bags.
