Eastleigh developers have sought clarity on the actual position of the government regarding permissible building heights following recent mixed signals.
Addressing the press on Monday, the Property Developers Welfare Society of Nairobi signaled its apprehension following a statement by the head of state over the weekend that appeared to recede his statement earlier on the allowable heights of developments in Eastleigh. The president was quoted as saying that the Government would work with the City County of Nairobi to ensure developments in the area strictly followed the standards agreed between the City and Kenya Defence Forces in the interest of security of the Moi Airbase located in the area. Earlier, he had said the Government would approve buildings up to 30 storeys to accommodate more Kenyans.
The developers said they were building in accordance with approvals received from the City County and it would be tragic if approvals were given today and withdrawn the next day. Said the Chairman Abdirahman Mohamed Abdi: “It will be a big loss to developers who had been given consent to build to certain heights if the law is revised.”
