The Engineers Board of Kenya is currently hearing 20 disciplinary cases lodged against registered engineers, Chief Executive Officer Eng. Margaret Ogai has said. Eng. Ogai, who is also the Registrar, said the process was aimed at ensuring that registered engineers adhere to the engineers’ code of conduct in the exercise of their duties.
In a media conference, Eng. Ogai said engineers found culpable would face sanctions as provided under the Engineers Act 2011 and Engineers Rules 2019.
Commenting on the residential apartment in Thindigua, Kiambu, which was recently reported to be in danger of collapse, the Registrar said the Board had established an independent team to carry out geotechnical and structural investigations on the situation and advise on remedial actions.
She called on members of the public to demand an Occupation Certificate before renting or occupying any building. Eng. Ogai also urged developers in counties to engage professional registered engineers.
The Board plans to make 15 site visits this quarter to enforce compliance, she added.
