The 50-storey G47 Ugatuzi Tower may become Africa’s tallest structure when and if completed. The building, whose groundbreaking ceremony was presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta last week, appears to temporarily take over from the stalled Pinnacle Tower, which was previously billed as Africa’s tallest until work came to a halt over myriad setbacks a while back.
The tallest building in Kenya is the 32-storey, 200 metres (660 ft) Britam Towers in Upperhill, Nairobi. The second-tallest building is the 33-storey, 163 metres (535 ft) UAP Tower, also located in Upperhill. In Africa, The Leonardo is currently the tallest building. It is a 55-floor mixed-use property development in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa that stands at a height of 234 metres (768 ft).
Located at the junction of Chaka Road and Argwings Kodhek Road in Hurlingam, Nairobi, G47 Ugatuzi Tower will house Council of Governors offices for all 47 county governments as well as offices for the Ministry of Devolution. It features a Devolution National Conference Centre with a capacity to hold 1,200 people. The conference centre will have unique capabilities to host the annual Governors’ national summit in a more interactive manner. There will be a gallery for observers and dignitaries such as the diplomatic corps.
The Kes 5b building will be constructed through a partnership between the Council of Governors and the County Pension Fund (CPF).
