The iconic Hilton Hotel building, a landmark in Nairobi’s Central Business District, could be repurposed to accommodate hostels and retail spaces if a proposal by the property owner is adopted.

The Government of Kenya and Hilton International Limited, who hold joint stake, believe the property could be better utilized by accommodating other business activities in line with market demand. The building is currently home to a number of retailers who occupy more than 80 percent of the available space which is about 28,460 square feet.

Other considerations floated by the owners are affordable living spaces and offices. A potential investor could also operate the entire unit as a 3-star hotel facility, reckon the owners.

The entire built-up area of Hilton is 333,839 square feet. There are 40 basement parking spaces, retail shops on ground and mezzanine floors, meeting and banqueting facilities as well as 287 hotel rooms on 20 floors. – Adapted from Business Daily
