Karen Residents Alarmed Over “Intrusive Project”

Proposed Center for Parliamentary Studies and Training

The Karen Langata District Association (KLDA) has expressed concern over continued construction activity at the site of the proposed Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Training in Karen in spite of a court order obtained by the association stopping the same.

“Despite court orders obtained by KLDA stopping the construction of the proposed Parliamentary Service Commission 14-storey building in Karen, construction continues by Chinese Company CJIC,” noted KLDA. “Are Parliament and the Chinese contractor above the Law of Kenya?” posed the association.

“KLDA is not against development. However, development must conform to the Karen Local Physical Development Plan that guides development in Karen of which primarily is a residential area”, said KLDA.

According to the association, the proposed 14-storey tower is right in the middle of residential developments and will affect the serenity and privacy enjoyed by residents who have worked hard to afford homes in the area.

“Urban Planning is crucial and should not be ignored”, said KLDA.

KLDA is a residents’ association whose main objective is to represent the interests of its members and to initiate support and disseminate appropriate development measures.
