After years of delay, Kinoru Stadium in Meru County looks complete according to images supplied by the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU).
Construction of the stadium was initiated by former governor Peter Munya, but along the way, his administration handed over the project to Sports Kenya for renovations.
What followed were numerous interruptions of the project, including delayed payments to contractors, rains and other unforeseen factors.
Construction of the 25,000-seater at Makutano just after Meru town, suffered setbacks after the works were suspended numerous times. Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed at one time read the riot act to the contractor, saying she would entertain no further delays whatsoever.
The project cost was in the region of Kes 900 million.
The government has been keen on fulfilling a promise it made several years ago to build new stadiums and boost sports in the country.
