More Trouble for Pinnacle Tower as NCA Cautions Developer

The National Construction Authority (NCA) has asked the developer of the proposed Pinnacle Tower in Nairobi to immediately take action to ensure the safety of the general public and properties neighbouring the abandoned site.

In a public notice, NCA Executive Director who is also the Registrar of Contractors Engineer Maurice Akech, noted that the construction site posed “a grave hazard arising from deep excavation”.

“In exercise of the powers bestowed upon the Authority under the provisions of Section 23 of the National Construction Authority Act, the Authority hereby orders the developer Jabavu Village Limited of the construction site on Plot LR No. 31/219 in Upper Hill Nairobi County to immediately undertake remedial actions to restore the safety of the site and that of the neighbouring properties within 14 days of the date of this notice”, read the notice in part.

The regulator warned that failure to comply with the order within the stipulated time would see the NCA recommend prosecution “to the fullest extent of the law.”

The NCA warned members of the public to steer clear of the site for their own safety.

Pinnacle Towers was expected to be the tallest building in Africa upon completion. But it has been marred by court cases, financing and concerns over structural safety of nearby developments.
