The much-anticipated viaduct connecting Nairobi’s Central Business District to Valley Road, Ngong Road, and Haile Selassie Avenue is now expected to be completed by late 2026.
The project, which had stalled for some time due to funding constraints, recently resumed—sparking excitement among Nairobi residents, especially after structures began appearing along Kenyatta Avenue in the heart of the CBD. However, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has clarified that these are temporary hoarding structures.
Hoarding structures are solid barriers erected to secure construction sites, restrict unauthorized access, and protect the public from potential hazards. They also serve secondary purposes such as enhancing site safety, providing security, and occasionally offering space for advertising.
Once completed, the viaduct will offer a direct route for motorists traveling from the CBD to Ngong Road near the Kenya National Library Service, significantly easing traffic congestion and improving overall traffic flow across the city.
Meanwhile, construction of the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road (Junction Mall) Flyover is well underway. The project features a four-lane flyover, upgraded junctions, dedicated walkways, and cycling lanes—part of a broader effort to improve connectivity and promote safer, more inclusive urban mobility.
