The National Construction Authority (NCA) has conducted an operation to apprehend those flouting building regulations in Nairobi.
Led by the Executive Director Engineer Maurice Akech, the Authority swept across construction sites in Kileleshwa, Lavington, Pangani, Hamza and South B. Several arrests were made and works halted.
According to the regulatory body, the sting operation was occasioned by blatant disregard of compliance requirements and multiple suspension notices issued to construction sites in the past.
“The breaches include compliance requirements for active sites, construction beyond officially approved floor levels and hazardous excavations”, said the Authority. “We continue to urge developers and contractors to embrace voluntary compliance.”
The arrested persons are expected to be arraigned in court.
Two weeks ago, the NCA asked the developer of the proposed skyscraper Pinnacle Tower to immediately take action to ensure the safety of the general public and properties neighbouring the abandoned site which had deep excavation.
