NEMA Closes “Noisy” Construction Site in Nairobi

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has ordered the immediate suspension of construction activities at a site on Likoni Lane, off Dennis Pritt Road, following multiple complaints from the public. The development, led by Alina Valley Company Ltd, has raised concerns over its impact on the environment and public health.

This directive, issued earlier this week by NEMA’s Director General, halts all work at the site until further notice. NEMA will now carry out a thorough assessment to determine the necessary steps to address potential environmental and health risks.

The move is part of NEMA’s broader initiative to enforce environmental standards and safeguard public well-being.

The closure comes amid growing concerns from Kilimani residents about the surge in high-rise developments in the area. Once a quiet, low-density neighborhood, Kilimani is now rapidly transforming into a busy urban hub, raising questions about the long-term sustainability of such growth.
