Radheshyam Transport Limited, a company well known in the construction industry for its transport and warehousing services, is venturing into real estate with a massive Kes 1 billion investment in Nairobi.

The company plans to put up 424 residential units in the city’s Donholm area on a 17-acre parcel of land. The firm is targeting middle-income buyers but has also set aside land to put up affordable housing units. At least 168 apartments housed in blocks rising to seven floors will be built.

The development will contain a commercial shopping complex, a recreational area and a kindergarten.

Donholm is a popular suburb of the larger Eastlands area of Nairobi where a large population of middle and lower income families lives. In recent years, major roads connecting the region to the rest of Nairobi and beyond have been expanded. These include Outerring Road (which has been dualled) and Kangundo Road, which has been expanded and recarpeted. The revamped infrastructure has eased perennial traffic congestion and attracted more investors and residents to the area.
