A concrete mixer is a motorized piece of equipment that mixes cement, aggregate, and water into a uniform solution based on the engineer’s specifications. Concrete mixers thoroughly mix the elements with a revolving drum and blades. A mobile concrete mixer is the best option for small jobs. Some artisans mix concrete by hand, but this can result in an uneven mixture, especially if the artisan performing the work is not properly supervised. Truck mixers are ideal for larger projects.
Concrete mixers come in two varieties: forced mixing and gravity mixing. The drum of a forced mixer remains stationary, while the blades spin separately, as in a blender. Gravity mixers rotate the drum, and the blades either remain stationary or move with the drum if attached to the drum walls.
Both designs have advantages and disadvantages, but gravity mixers are the most common because they are simpler, more reliable, and less expensive.
In Kenya, there are many suppliers of mobile concrete mixers. These include Tilemac Supplies, Metro Tools, Kafum Engineering (locally made), Elite Kenya, Backbone Classic Products and Engineering Supplies Limited.
Most truck concrete mixers are imported as used equipment but can also be purchased from companies such as AIMIX.
