Arrests Made as NCA Conducts More Raids on Construction Sites

Arrests made as NCA raids Mombasa project sites
NCA officials at a construction site during a recent tour of Mombasa to enforce compliance.

Two people were arrested in Mombasa on Monday when the National Construction Authority (NCA) conducted a new round of compliance raids on suspected sites. The raids, usually termed by the regulatory body as “Quality Assurance” operations, took place in Lights and Mogadishu Nyali areas of the coastal city and saw the closure of two non-compliant sites. It was led by NCA Executive Director Engineer Maurice Akech.

According to NCA, there has been flagrant disregard of compliance requirements and suspension notices issued to construction sites, hence the actions.

NCA said the apprehended individuals would be arraigned in a court of law.

“We continue to urge developers and contractors to embrace voluntary compliance”, it added.

In October, a similar operation was conducted in Nairobi.
