The Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) Mombasa Branch has stepped in to support developers and built environment consultants facing mounting frustrations in securing project approvals within Mombasa County.
In a notice released today, AAK Mombasa Branch Chairman, Arch. Dancan Odhiambo, called on architects, developers, and consultants encountering systemic delays or irregularities to speak out. The branch is compiling a formal list of complaints to present to the Mombasa County Assembly, with the aim of fostering transparency and accountability in the approval process.
The association highlighted several persistent challenges, including:
- Approval delays exceeding the statutory 60-day period.
- Revoked approvals or demands for in-person meetings with county officials without clarity.
- Projects operating without prior approvals or licensed consultants, now facing regularization hurdles.
- Pressure to conform to specific color schemes, such as painting buildings blue and white, regardless of design intentions.
- Exorbitant or exaggerated invoices allegedly issued by county authorities.
“If any of the above applies to you, do not remain silent,” urged Arch. Odhiambo. He emphasized that the AAK is committed to pursuing both open deliberation with county officials and legal redress where necessary.
Affected professionals and developers are encouraged to submit a brief and factual description of their complaints to [email protected].
The AAK reiterated its commitment to standing for a transparent, fair, and professional built environment in Mombasa County.
