The Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) is set to host the 2025 Annual Convention at Ciala Resort in Kisumu from October 1 to 4, marking a return to the lakeside city after over two decades. Themed “Shaping the Urban Future,” the event will bring together, among others, professionals from across the built environment sector, including architects, engineers, planners, quantity surveyors, and construction experts. Students, policy makers and development experts are also expected to attend.
The convention will tackle some of Kenya’s most pressing urban challenges through four thematic areas. “From plans to reality” will focus on how policy, data, and financing can help turn urban visions into functional systems. “Designing spaces for life” will explore how to create inclusive, safe, and vibrant urban environments. “Building climate-resilient cities” will highlight the role of sustainable infrastructure and green development, while “Driving urban innovation” will emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration to build future-ready cities.
The convention will also coincide with the launch of AAK’s Western Kenya branch, expanding the association’s regional footprint and professional reach. This move reflects AAK’s commitment to inclusive engagement and support for members across the country.
Amid growing concerns over construction safety, the event will highlight ethical practice and accountability within the industry. AAK will also showcase tools such as Mulika Mjengo, a platform that empowers the public to report unsafe or non-compliant construction activities.
