Women In Real Estate (WIRE) Kenya, an association of professional women in the built
environment, will hold its 7th Annual Legends and Leaders awards on Friday, 10th March, 2023, at Movenpick Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya from 7:00 am to 11:00 am. The theme is in line with the international Women’s Day – DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.
The event aims to bring together well-known female executives in Kenya’s construction
industry to talk about and emphasize the value of gender inclusion in the sector. The Legends and Leaders event also gives WIRE Kenya the chance to honor and celebrate the
achievements of women leaders in the built environment of Kenya while exhibiting their
successes and contributions to the sector. The keynote speakers at the event will be Hon.
Charles Hinga Mwaura; CBS, CA (SA), PS for the State Department for Housing and Urban
Development, and the chief guest will be Farida Karoney – Former CS for Lands and Physical Planning. In attendance will also be Kenyan women leaders in the construction industry, including architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, project managers, and real estate developers.
This event also marks the launch of WIRE Kenya’s 4th Women Representation in the Built
Environment Report on gender inclusion in the built environment. The annual report gives
fact driven insights into the state of gender inclusion in the built industry’s professional and
artisan associations, institutions of academia and vocational training. Since the inception of
this report, there has been a noted increase in the number of women in leadership positions, such as QS Jen Musyimi as the president of Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya, Eng Grace Kagondu as 1st Vice President of Institute of Engineers of Kenya, Arch Florence Nyole as Vice President of Architectural Association of Kenya, Ms Winnie Ngumi as Chair of Board of Directors at Kenya National Highways Authority and Nasra Salim, Nominated Member of the County Assembly, Nairobi City County. There are tens of other WIRE members serving in various councils and committees within the above bodies and others including: the Public Space Network, Urban Planning Technical Committee for Nairobi City County, Committees for Conferment of City and Town Status to various urban areas across counties, East Africa Institute of Architects, Commonwealth Association of Architects and the International Union of Architects.
