Engineer Grace Kagondu has dismissed last week’s elections for the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) presidency as a sham.

In a statement, the Engineer who lost to her sole rival Eng. Shammah Kiteme, said that the entire voting process was flawed.

“As a leader in IEK and a candidate in these elections, I must categorically condemn what was undeniably, a seriously flawed voting process,” she stated. Eng. Kagondu claimed she not get to vote “because the system had already voted for me and incredibly voted for my direct competitor”. She alleged that other voters and candidates had a similar experience.

“My direct competitor had also expressed concern that the voting platform was totally flawed. It is deplorable to see the self-congratulation of leaders who emerged victorious from this failed election,” she said.

“As a leader in IEK serving as 1st Vice president, it is my duty and a responsibility to protect the integrity of Engineers and IEK in particular. And I will.”

Eng. Kagondu, who has been serving as IEK’s First Vice-President, asked voters to share their experiences through email.

The hotly contested election that saw the two candidates engage in a national television duel in the last days of the campaign saw Eng. Shammah Kiteme declared IEK President Elect. He will serve for the next two years.

Similar allegations were made during the elections for President of the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK). In that election, Florence Nyole emerged winner, beating Marylyn Musyimi.
