Kenya Airports Authority to Address Infrastructure Challenges at JKIA

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) says it has commenced actions to address infrastructure challenges at the country’s main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

In a press statement by Acting Managing Director Henry Ogoye, the Authority noted that over the last 10 years, the airport had “suffered inadequate facility and infrastructure capacity upgrades to the extent that even temporary interventions became permanent solutions hence the current service disruptions.”

The statement by KAA comes after a video emerged online showing rainwater leaking from the roof in departure terminals prompting an outcry from members of the public. The government has blamed its predecessor for the current predicament facing the airport with Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen saying the incoming administration found dilapidated infrastructure and that the contractor who worked on departure terminals upgrades did not do a satisfactory job.

KAA says the infrastructure development will include expansion of the passenger terminals, runway and provision of additional aircraft parking bays.
