Usahihi Expressway Limited has issued an official clarification dismissing recent media reports suggesting that the Nairobi–Mombasa Usahihi Expressway project has been cancelled. According to the company, such claims are inaccurate and misleading.
The clarification was posted on the company’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle and was personally endorsed by Kyle McCarter, Chairman of Usahihi Expressway Limited.
The company stated that the expressway remains under active review by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the Public Private Partnerships (PPP) Directorate, and the National Treasury. All evaluations are progressing in full compliance with the Public Private Partnerships Act of Kenya.
Usahihi Expressway Limited noted that recent comments by KeNHA officials were technical clarifications related to ongoing assessments and should not be interpreted as a cancellation or rejection of the project.
The company also addressed confusion surrounding the proposed expansion of the existing A8 highway, clarifying that this initiative is part of the broader Usahihi Expressway strategy. It is not a competing or substitute project but a complementary component intended to improve road safety and enhance traffic flow.
The Nairobi–Mombasa Usahihi Expressway is envisioned as a modern, integrated transport corridor that combines a new high-speed expressway with targeted upgrades to the current highway. The project aims to significantly reduce travel times, enhance safety, and promote sustained economic growth along the corridor.
Usahihi Expressway Limited urged the public and media to rely on its official communication channels for accurate and timely updates, and to disregard unverified or speculative reports.
