The National Construction Authority has begun sensitizing police officers on the enforcement of the NCA Act on construction sites. Officials of the building regulator kicked off the programme last week in Central and Upper Eastern regions. The exercise involved Sub County Police Commanders and was attended by among others National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) Director Dr. Duncan Ochieng, Isiolo County Commander Joseph Kigen, NCA Directorate of Registration and Compliance GM Qs. Susan Rutto and Upper Eastern Regional Coordinator Arch. Festus Mariera.

Similar exercises are planned for all counties countrywide, culminating in a meeting with all Regional and County Police Commanders.

NCA has been relentless in streamlining the construction industry by ensuring that stakeholders are in compliance with all regulations. Of particular concern has been construction projects that are undertaken without the requisite approvals or without involving registered professionals. Random checks around the country have netted defiant developers and contractors, some of whom have been arraigned in court and fined. Some projects have also been halted.
