New Architects’ Lobby Vows to Speak in a “Louder Voice”

Newly launched lobby group, The Architects Alliance (TAA), has denied it intends to rival the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK).

Architect Sylvia Kasanga, a former nominated senator who is the lobby’s inaugural president, said TAA members would still remain members of the AAK “but will now have more voice to speak on issues affecting the industry”.

According to Kasanga, TAA will be engaged in advocacy, operate as a think tank and also serve as a home for architects. The lobby targets architects who have practiced for at least 20 years.

“We have observed with dismay the deterioration of our physical and built environment and we are of the opinion that the way to fix this is to involve every citizen in appreciating the value that good physical environments bring and the importance of preserving the heritage handed down to us so that we can pass it on to the future generations,” said Ms Kasanga.
