Talanta Stadium Advances

Talanta Stadium

Construction of Kenya’s ultra-modern Talanta Stadium is steadily progressing as the country prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The landmark project is slated for completion in the first half of 2026, positioning it as a centrepiece of Kenya’s sporting infrastructure renewal.

Strategically located at Jamhuri Grounds, just past Dagoretti Corner along Ngong Road, the 60,000-seater stadium sits about 10 kilometres from Nairobi’s Central Business District. Its accessibility and proximity to key transport corridors make it ideal for hosting high-profile international matches. Once complete, it is expected to boost not only sports tourism but also local economic activity in the surrounding area.

The stadium’s design embraces a bold geometric and angular theme, with triangular motifs dominating its façade. This architectural approach conveys a sense of motion and dynamism, while ensuring structural balance and visual appeal. The form and layout also reflect a modern understanding of fan experience — integrating sightlines, circulation, and safety considerations in line with international standards.

Construction commenced in March 2024, with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) as the main contractor. The project includes modern facilities such as VIP lounges, hospitality suites, training pitches, media zones, and ample parking, all tailored to meet the stringent requirements of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for tournament venues.

Once complete, Talanta Stadium will complement existing national sports hubs, including the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani — also a 60,000-capacity facility — and the 15,000-seat Nyayo National Stadium.
