The contractor working on the Ksh 64b Thwake Dam has asked for more time to complete the first phase of the project.
China Gezhouba Group Company Limited said it required the deadline to be extended to at least the end of this year. El Nino rains have been cited as part of the factors necessitating the extension.
Speaking after a tour of the project by senior government officials this week, Water Cabinet Secretary said Zacharia Njeru said the contractor’s application for extension would be reviewed by the Ministry and a decision made on the new completion date.
The dam is 89 per cent complete according to project consultant, SMEC. February 6 was the initial completion date for Phase 1.
